講演会「ナイジェリアにおける環境・紛争・国内避難」
近年、ナイジェリア北部の不安定化が深刻です。この背景には、気候変動や環境の変化が深く関わっています。これらは地域社会の暮らしや経済に影響を与えるだけでなく、国家の脆弱性や紛争の激化とも結びつき、人々の避難や移動を引き起こしています。 本講演では、ナイジェリア・ラゴス大学地理学科教授のマヨワ・ファショナ教授をお迎えし、気候変動・環境問題・自然資源管理の課題が、地域の不安定性とどのように絡み合い、国内避難の拡大をもたらしているのか、事例を交えながら分かりやすくお話して頂きます。

・講演者 マヨワ・ファショナ教授（Prof. Mayowa Fasona）
ナイジェリア、ラゴス大学・社会科学部・地理学科。現在、同学科長。専門は地理学（気候、環境変動、天然資源管理、リモートセンシングおよびGIS）。2007年、ナイジェリア南西部オンド州沿岸における土地劣化と環境変動に関する博士論文を提出し学長賞を受賞。2009年～2010年にアフリカ気候変動フェローとして、ケープタウン大学気候システム分析グループ（CSAG）にて気候変動モデリングと適応に関する研究に従事。現在、国際共同研究プロジェクト（2023-2026）”A Pan-African and Transdisciplinary Lens on the Margins: Tackling the Risks of Extreme Events (PALM-TREEs)”の研究責任者の一人。

[Lecture] Environment, Conflicts and Internal displacements in Nigeria
This talk examines the nexus between climate change, environmental stress, conflict, and internal displacement in northern Nigeria. It highlights how state fragility, insurgency, and banditry, compounded by floods and droughts, disrupt livelihoods and food security, trapping many in poverty and insecurity. Drawing on recent experiences, the lecture contextualizes how intertwined environmental and socio-political factors generate migration pressures and displacement, offering insights into the challenges of managing climate, environment, and natural resources in fragile settings.

He is a Geographer with specialization in Climate, Environment and Natural Resource Management. He is an expert in Climate and Environmental Change as well as Remote Sensing & GIS Applications. He’s a Co-Principal investigator, “A Pan-African and Transdisciplinary Lens on the Margins: Tackling the Risks of Extreme Events (PALM-TREEs)” (2023-2026).
